Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Pittsburgh police arrived to the hospital in response to a report of potential domestic violence. When Byrd accused her of cheating on Saturday, the lady informed police that she was at their apartment with him.
“He figured he would punish me,” she stated to cops.

According to a probable cause arrest document, Burton L. Byrd held the woman captive during their Saturday–Tuesday appointment in Pittsburgh, preventing her from leaving to seek medical care.
According to the affidavit, when he did release the claimed victim, he instructed her to fabricate a tale about being attacked close to a Wendy’s and threatened to harm her family if she told the truth.
According to reports, Byrd tied the woman’s hands together with shoelaces and made her strip naked. According to police, he started punching her in the face and beating her with a belt.
Officers observed that the woman had broken blood vessels in her right eye and bruises surrounding her eye, which suggested she had been hit in the face multiple times.
After plugging in the iron, the victim claimed that Byrd began tapping her body with it. Police said that after claiming that the iron “wasn’t hot enough,” he waited for it to heat up before applying it to different body parts and demanding to know if she had slept with another man.
According to the affidavit, the woman recalled, “And I kept on saying no, I didn’t cheat on him,” the woman recounted, according to the affidavit”
According to the affidavit, the torturous attack lasted for four hours. According to police, he attempted using gauze to treat her wounds after he stopped burning her.
He allegedly refused to allow her to go to the hospital, despite her insistence. According to police, she was moved to a hospital with a burn unit after visiting another one. It is anticipated that the victim will remain in the hospital for a minimum of two weeks.
Byrd is charged with numerous offenses, such as false imprisonment, witness intimidation, aggravated assault, and kidnapping. It’s unclear if he has legal representation.
