Tragedy struck in Peoria when 26-year-old Hein Lwin was arrested for the murder of his 2-year-old stepchild, an incident that has gripped the local community with sorrow and questions. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that Peoria Police Department were called to the scene last Thursday, after Lwin reported that the child was choking on a cloth. Despite the efforts of first responders, they could not forestall the tragedy that unfolded over the ensuing days.

Following the incident, the young victim was transported to the hospital, embattled to survive the injuries that police, in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, later determined were caused by repeated physical abuse at the hands of Lwin. Still trying to save the child, the hospital staff grappled with the severe injuries inflicted upon the young life, which eventually succumbed to the abuse three days later last Sunday.

Originally detained on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and child abuse, Lwin saw his charges escalated to first-degree murder after the stepchild’s death.
