Philadelphia Car Owner Shoots Alleged Thief in Broad Daylight as Police Investigate Fatal Frankford Incident

Yesterday afternoon, a guy was shot in the head while allegedly attempting to steal a car in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood, resulting in a tragic shooting incident. When the theft attempt occurred, the owner of a car left it running and unlocked to use an ATM at Frankford and Pratt, according to police sources who spoke to FOX 29. When the owner noticed the effort, he intervened and the man was shot.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the car’s owner has a permission to carry a firearm and is a registered gun owner. Following the incident, the victim was taken to Temple University Hospital. Within a few hours, he passed away from his wounds in spite of the prompt medical assistance. A weapon was found at the scene, and an investigation is now in progress.

“Someone was shot up the street a while back. It’s not shocking because there’s a lot of violence in this area, but it’s shocking that it happened right in front of the business,” Brianna Colter said in an interview with NBC Philadelphia. Because of how close the occurrence was to her place of employment, she found it very disturbing. Following the incident, a white taxi and gray vehicle were engaged in an accident, and the area was cordoned off.

Jacques Sylvain, the taxi driver who was involved in the post-shooting accident, told 6abc, “I see the car coming like zig-zag, coming straight to me.” There aren’t much further specifics available regarding the incident, but the Philadelphia Police are asking the public for any more information and asking anybody with information to contact their incident Investigation Group at 215-686-TIPS.
