Phoenix Police Fatally Shoot Home Invasion Suspect After Pursuit; 2 Officer-Involved Shootings Within 12 Hours

Within 12 hours, Phoenix police were involved in two different shootings involving officers, one of which resulted in the death of a suspect in a home invasion after a police pursuit. Officers responded to a complaint regarding an armed burglary near 19th and Southern Avenues late Monday night, which resulted in the deadly event. Police found a pickup truck that fit the suspect’s vehicle description, but the driver would not stop and ultimately crashed into a wall, according to ABC15.

The pursuit came to an end when Carlos Fregoso, 41, the driver, got out of the car with two pistols and fled while pointing one of them. Police opened fire as a result of this conduct, fatally wounding Fregoso, who was declared dead at the site. The encounter did not result in any injuries to the officers. Phoenix Police told FOX10 Phoenix that “as the man continued to run towards a residential home, officers gave him commands to stop and drop the gun.” Officers had fired their firearms in response to the suspect brandishing his gun at them as he arrived at a house’s driveway.

Authorities found a rifle inside Fregoso’s pickup truck and discovered two handguns next to his body. Fregoso was identified as the culprit in the suspected home invasion based on preliminary results. Detectives are now processing the crime scene as part of the Phoenix Police Department’s active and ongoing investigation into the incident.
