A community-focused toy drive has been started in the center of Pima County, and this year, all donations will undoubtedly remain there, lifting the spirits of underprivileged local children. According to Pima County Newsroom, three county workers are leading this effort: Gilbert Ybarra of the Transportation Department, Ana Camarillo, and Marjava Ramirez of the Community & Workforce Development Department. The three are committed to making sure that this holiday season, every youngster in the region gets a gift to open.
This Toy Drive Committee has adopted a local focus, departing from their previous collaboration with Toys for Tots. Ybarra asserts that “Every toy that is collected in Pima County stays here.” The campaign, which is fueled by individual struggles, involves more than 51 county agencies and, for the first time, the town of Ajo, making sure that the entire county is involved. Since Ajo’s donations were previously allocated outside the neighborhood, their engagement is especially noteworthy.

Camarillo acknowledged the team effort, saying, “We couldn’t have done this without the help of the Board of Supervisors, and without the participation of the entire County community,” as explained by Pima County, while Ramirez emphasized the direct benefit to the community this year. Through December 13, new, unopened items can still be donated to the Pima County Toy Drive at different locations throughout the county.
