Pinellas Park Man Sentenced to Six Years for Social Security Fraud and Government Benefits Theft

A 63-year-old man from Pinellas Park, identified as Kellis Dion Jackson, has been handed a six-year sentence in federal prison for a scheme involving the fraudulent use of a Social Security number and the theft of government benefits. The sentence was announced by U.S. District Judge William F. Jung. Jackson, who was on federal supervision related to previous offenses, was also instructed to pay restitution amounting to $46,695.

During the trial, evidence showed that while being supervised federally, Kellis stole SSI disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. According to the information provided by the

U.S. Attorney’s Office

, Jackson deceitfully acquired a Social Security number under the false identity of Chandler Dante Alexander, claiming that he hadn’t been assigned an SSN before and provided fake personal details. He used this new identity to carry out normal life activities, including work and marriage, which would later compound into a web of lies and legal troubles.

Jackson’s fraudulent activities extended to various aspects of his life. Utilizing the counterfeit SSN, he managed to secure a Commercial Driver’s License, gain employment, file for taxes, open bank accounts, and even enter into marriage. He then separately applied for SSI and SNAP benefits under his birth name and valid SSN. The

U.S. Attorney’s Office press release

stated that on these applications, Jackson falsely claimed to be single among other inaccurate statements.

Jackson’s application would have been denied if he had reported his marriage and job under the fraudulently obtained SSN. The case was thoroughly investigated by several government agencies, including the Social Security Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Huyler led the prosecution, which resulted in Jackson’s conviction on August 13.
