Pittman Properties Launches $5,000 Scholarship for Knoxville Firefighters’ Children in Honor of Fire Marshal’s Legacy

Pittman Properties has created a new scholarship for Knoxville firefighters’ children in honor of the memory of a longtime firefighter. The scholarship, which will start in the 2025–2026 school year, will provide $5,000 to graduates who have a parent who works for the Knoxville Fire Department. This money will help students pursue their goals at community institutions, four-year universities, or vocational schools, according to WVLT.

Through the gift, his family’s real estate company honors William “Bill” Pittman, who began working for the Knoxville Fire Department in 1963 and retired as a fire marshal in 1998. Pittman Properties principal Bill Pittman said WBIR, “My father supported my own education and gave me the chance to graduate from the University of Tennessee.” “I am proud we can honor my father and his distinguished career by supporting that opportunity for another firefighter’s child to advance their education.”

The scholarship will be administered by the Knox Education Foundation, and details about how to apply will be made public in January 2025. In a statement received by WVLT, Michael Taylor, CEO of Knox Education Foundation, stated, “When the Pittman family asked us to help create this scholarship, we immediately agreed as this type of scholarship will be meaningful to 95% of the folks we serve.”

The Knoxville Fire Department posted a thank-you note on Facebook in honor of Pittman’s legacy. The Knoxville Fire Department said, “Thank you, Bill Pittman, for your family’s generosity to our Knoxville firefighters’ children.”
