On Friday evening, a fire raced through an apartment complex in the East Hills district of Pittsburgh, causing three persons to sustain injuries, according to the officials.
Around nine o’clock in the evening, firefighters were dispatched to the Maple Ridge Apartments, which are located on Park Hill Drive. The authorities reported that three individuals, including two children, were sent to nearby hospitals for medical care.
At the most recent inspection, the authorities reported that the two children were in critical condition. It was not immediately known what medical state the third individual, who was an adult, was in.
It was reported by the authorities that all of the victims resided in the same flat. Additionally, an evaluation was conducted on a security guard at the property who attempted to rescue the persons who were inside.
The children were saved from the fire by firefighters who entered the building through the windows and brought them down the stairs, as stated by the officials in charge of the fire department.
In one flat, the fire caused significant damage. The damage that occurred in other apartments was caused by smoke and water. As an additional measure of safety, the entire building was evacuated. The authorities were unable to provide a timetable for when residents would be permitted to return on Friday night.
This is what Yugonda Akrie, a resident, had to say: “I got tears in my eyes.” Both of these children are rather young. After Christmas, it is now two days later. If we were to lose these children, what would you say?
Whoever is responsible for what occurred here tonight ought to take responsibility for it. There are now some residences in this area that do not have heat, and as a result, the rent office has provided space heaters to such homes.
Residents who do not have access to heat have expressed that they are now reluctant to make use of the space heaters. It is not known what caused the fire to start. There is still an ongoing investigation.
