When a teenager from Washington told her parents she didn’t believe in God, it allegedly led to a fight in which both parents were stabbed.
Following the alleged attack on Easter Sunday, April 20, McKenzy Hafer, 19, was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Benjamin Hafer, McKenzy Hafer’s father, wished his daughter a “Happy Resurrection Day,” to which she replied that she didn’t believe in God, according to police reports that KATU was able to obtain.
After allegedly arguing verbally, the two left the house and proceeded to different rooms.
Erin Hetzler, McKenzy Hafer’s mother, reportedly got into a heated verbal altercation with her daughter after she questioned her about the remark.
According to KOIN‘s reporting on the court filings, McKenzy Hafer responded by wishing her father a “Happy Resurrection Day.” Nevertheless, Hetzler questioned her daughter about the communication.
The documents claim that here is where the dispute descended into violence.
According to reports, McKenzy Hafer’s mother entered the room to inquire about the dispute with her father as she was cooking in the kitchen.
Although the specifics of their subsequent dispute were not apparent, the records said that McKenzy Hafer became so enraged that she hurled her phone on the ground, turning the verbal dispute into a physical altercation.
Then Benjamin Hafer came in and inquired as to the phone’s whereabouts.
Then, McKenzy Hafer allegedly reached for a kitchen knife and stabbed her father in the stomach “with intent to kill him,” according to the police report.
McKenzy Hafer then reportedly used the same knife to stab her mother in the throat “with intent to kill her.”
Although he was there in the residence at the time, McKenzy’s brother Dakota Hafer did not participate in the claimed attack.
During her police interrogation, McKenzy Hafer’s description of the purported assault aligned with the injuries her parents had received. It is anticipated that both parents will live.
McKenzy Hafer was arrested on $500,000 bond after being charged with two charges of attempted second-degree murder. On May 5, she is expected to appear in court again.
