Police in Washington, D.C. swiftly apprehended a suspect following a carjacking incident in Northwest on Saturday morning. The arrest was made shortly after the crime unfolded. According to theMetropolitan Police Department, it was late Friday evening when two suspects, one armed with a firearm, approached a victim seated in their vehicle. Demands were made for the vehicle and personal belongings, after which the suspects fled the scene unharmed.
MPD officers responded to the incident, which took place on the 1900 block of 8th Street, Northwest. The department’s helicopter, Falcon 1, spotted a stolen vehicle cruising through the Third District the following morning. The Air Support Unit monitored the vehicle before it was stopped in the 1200 block of Euclid Street, Northwest. On the ground, officers were able to secure one of the suspects, who had the victim’s stolen property.
The fast-moving arrest saw Maurice Nelson, a 27-year-old resident of Southeast, facing charges of Armed Carjacking, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, and Fleeing from Law Enforcement in a Motor Vehicle.
