Police Seeking for Pennsylvania Lawmaker Arrest for Allegedly Violating Restraining Order

Philadelphia police announced on Tuesday that they have issued an arrest warrant for a state lawmaker who violated a restraining order.

A spokesperson from the police said they couldn’t provide any information about the warrant for Rep. Kevin Boyle. According to the police, he was supposed to surrender himself.

Boyle, a Democrat from Philadelphia, has been arrested before. In 2021, he was charged with harassment and violating a protection from abuse order for going to his wife’s house. According to his attorney, the situation was described as a “domestic issue” and Boyle was not accused of being violent.

Boyle and his lawyer from the 2021 case did not respond to a phone message on Tuesday evening. The charges against Boyle were dismissed. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Boyle wrote a letter to his constituents in 2022, explaining that he received treatment at a mental health facility which he believes saved his life.

The Inquirer has reported that House officials took away Boyle’s position as committee chairman and his access to the Capitol in February, after an incident at a bar in Montgomery County.

After Boyle’s arrest in 2021, officials in the House took similar actions. House Democratic leaders said that Boyle was dealing with ongoing mental health challenges at the time.

Boyle, who is 44 years old, is running for his eighth term in the state House of Representatives. Sean Dougherty, the son of state Supreme Court Justice Kevin Dougherty and nephew of former organized labor leader John “Johnny Doc” Dougherty, is challenging him in the primary election next Tuesday.

Boyle’s brother, Brendan Boyle, is a member of Congress representing Philadelphia.
