A crash occurred on the Southfield Freeway in Detroit when a van, traveling at high speed in the southbound lanes near Joy Road, flipped onto its side. A 19-year-old woman from Pontiac died, and four others were injured. The accident took place around 4:50 a.m. yesterday.
According toCBS News, the teenager who lost her life was a passenger in the van. She was partially ejected during the crash, which resulted in her death at the scene. The driver of the van, a 39-year-old man, apparently lost control while driving at high rates of speeds, causing the van to subsequently collide with a Ford Fusion.
ClickOnDetroitrevealed that the injured parties included the driver and two additional passengers from the van, alongside the driver of the Ford Fusion. All injured persons were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment, although their current conditions remain undisclosed.
MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said, “This is yet another example of risky driving behaviors leading to a preventable traffic death,” toFOX 2 Detroit. He continued to emphatically urge the public, “We are continuing to ask Michiganders to be more careful when they are behind the wheel. Slow down, buckle up, pay attention. Your passengers’ lives are depending on it.”
As the investigation continues, police are urging Michigan residents to follow traffic laws and drive carefully to help prevent further accidents and ensure road safety. The identities of the driver of the van and the occupants of the Ford Fusion have not been released, pending notifications of kin and further investigations.
