“Andre McCain, Founder and CEO of HalfSmoke, is pleased to announce the appointment of Bart Hosmer as the culinary director and partner of his pioneering restaurant. HalfSmoke is located at 651 Florida Avenue, NW, 20001, is known for its gourmet, homemade sausages and characteristic starters from the wood grill. Hosmer brings 35 years of culinary experience to his new position. Previously, he was Senior Director of Food at Marriott International and Vice President of Food + Nutrition Services at MedStar Health. In addition to overseeing menu development at HalfSmoke, Hosmer will work closely with McCain Launch Get Social, a new Detroit-style virtual pizza pop-up launching this month. Get Social will operate from the popular Shaw neighborhood restaurant, offering a rotating selection of Detroit-style pizzas.

The savory cakes contain fermented batter that’s baked in rectangular blue steel pans and topped with a robust sauce made from shredded Jersey tomatoes, real cheese, and classic local and adventurous ingredients. Get Social is the second virtual concept McCain brought to market during the pandemic. Customers who place an order during the first pop-up week, December 14-18, will receive free cinnamon sugar donuts with every pizza purchase. As a special holiday incentive Get Social is offering free dough gods to the first 50 people who drop by the pop-up on Monday, December 14th.

Hosmer is from Northern California and is a graduate of San Francisco City College. He was with Marriott International for 17 years, where he was Senior Director for Food & Beverage and Corporate Chef for America. During his tenure, he also led food and beverage initiatives for the company’s full-service hotels. As director of culinary development, Hosmer, working with the Food & Beverage corporate team in Bethesda, Maryland, played a key role in developing the 5-10-20 menu that will be displayed in the transitional lobby of Marriott’s new Marriott International (MI) Great is served room. He was also instrumental in developing the new B&F strategy for the Renaissance brand. Hosmer has also worked in executive positions within the Walt Disney World Company, as well as independent hotels and numerous restaurants across California.

Prior to joining HalfSmoke, Hosmer was responsible for transforming the food and nutrition services division at MedStar Health, a 10-person hospital organization in Maryland and the District of Columbia. In this role, he implemented numerous initiatives to improve the overall quality, service, and nutrition of MedStar patients and visitors.

Other culinary successes during Hosmer’s career included his appointment as Discovery Chef by the James Beard Foundation in 1998. He also received the first Michelin recommendation for a Marriott-operated restaurant in the United States. Hosmer also received the Marriott Award of Culinary Excellence in 2003. He holds a Certified Sommelier degree from the Court of Master Sommeliers and lives in Potomac, Maryland with his wife and two children.

Customers used to patronize restaurants, but as social distance orders continue, more often socializing takes place in the privacy and security of home. For us, Get Social is a way to get the most out of our stationary space and to use the restaurant as efficiently as possible. “

The expected menu highlights of the new pizza popup include the starter from Dough Gods: garlic butter knots with parmesan and crispy basil, served with a selection of hot peppers, robust tomatoes, buttermilk ranch or basil pesto dip sauce and pizza – Offers such as Young, Wild & Basic with triple cheese, robust tomato sauce and basil; Don’t fake the funk with toasted mushrooms, sticky Taleggio cheese, and crispy rosemary.
