On Tuesday morning, a situation escalated in Homer, Michigan, when a 64-year-old man from Portage was arrested after a confrontation with law enforcement officers. According to a

, deputies responded to reports of a man burning leaves on the sidewalk near East Adams Street and South Sophia Street around 7:24 a.m. Initially cooperating with deputies, he then drew a knife and pointed it at one of the responding officers.

The man eventually dropped a weapon after deputies repeatedly commanded him to do so. However, he began to physically resist when they attempted to arrest him, leading to a scuffle that required assistance from the Homer Fire Department to bring the situation under control, as detailed in a release from the Sheriff’s Office. After the altercation, the individual was connected to a break-in at a nearby church, the United Methodist Church of Homer. He currently faces charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest and is being held in jail.

Further investigation revealed evidence linking the man to the earlier church burglary, reinforcing the arrest charges.
