A half-dozen residents of Portsmouth, RIA were recently detained on DUI and other crimes.

Stephen M. Reise, 64, of Donna Drive in Portsmouth, was taken into custody by the Portsmouth Police Department on Monday for driving under the influence of alcohol after a car accident, according to the police.

Officers were called to a car that had been traveling on a flat tire at around 3:29 p.m. on West Main Road close to Redwood Drive. Officers found the car from the prior request for service shortly after being notified of a car crash on Donna Drive at 3:33 p.m. When officers came across the car, they recognized the driver as Stephen Reise. During their conversation with Reise, the officers saw several indicators of alcohol impairment, such as glassy and red eyes, slurred speech, and an alcoholic smell.Reise also acknowledged that he had previously consumed alcohol. After submitting to and failing a field sobriety test, Reise was arrested.

Reise gave a chemical breathalyzer reading of.269% and.264% BAC, more than three times the legal limit, after being transported to headquarters. DUI of Liquor.15 or Higher was the charge against Reise. Reise was also charged with the following R.I. Traffic Tribunal offenses: banned operation with metal tires, refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test, and possession of an alcoholic beverage while operating a vehicle.

A justice of the peace arraigned Reise, who was then freed on $10,000 surety bail with restrictions on operating a vehicle until further court direction.

According to court documents, Reise had previously entered a nolo contendere plea in 2000 to accusations of DUI resulting in death related to an October 29, 1999, collision.

Since Thursday, the Portsmouth Police Department has arrested six people for DUI-related offenses, including Reise. During this period of proactive enforcement, the following other people were arrested:

Age 32, Joshua Poore of Middletown, Rhode Island, had a DUI of liquor with a BAC of.10 to.15.

William Fecteau, 20, of Seekonk, Massachusetts, was found guilty of DUI with a BAC of.10 to.15.

31-year-old Derek Mendes of Brockton, Massachusetts, was charged with DUI of Unknown BAC and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test for the second time.

Tiverton, Rhode Island resident Christopher Potter, age 57, was charged with DUI of Liquor Unknown BAC, Disorderly Conduct, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test for the second time.

Kristen Dyer, 42, of North Dighton, Massachusetts, refused to submit to a chemical test and was found guilty of DUI with an unknown blood alcohol content.
