Having a good time at Prattville’s CityFest takes on new meaning in the midst of an Alabama summer.
After a couple of days of rain, temperatures are anticipated to reach 94 degrees Fahrenheit on July 19, with high humidity and the possibility of further storms that afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
CityFest will provide heat respite for families arriving at the Fairgrounds at Mac Gray Park, 1050 Martin Luther King Drive, in addition to a day of fun, food, entertainment, and shopping. The free entry event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are committed to the health and safety of our vendors and guests,” stated Patty VanderWal, President of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce. “With the forecasted heat, we’ve taken extra steps to keep everyone cool and cared for.”
The Chamber indicated that it will collaborate with the Prattville Fire Department and local volunteer firefighters to give heat relief that day. Cooling tents will be placed across the park, and complimentary bottled water from Eleven86 Water will be provided. The Prattville Fire Department’s EMS teams will be available throughout the day in case of an emergency medical need.
The Chamber recommended CityFest attendees to stay hydrated throughout the day, as well as to consume water prior to their arrival. Attendees should dress in lightweight, breathable apparel.
The Chamber stated that it will continue to monitor weather and heat conditions throughout the event and offer updates as necessary.
