Quick Response by Trained Firefighters Quells FUJIFILM Facility Blaze in Holly Springs

A fire that ignited on the roof of FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies in Holly Springs prompted employee evacuations on Monday morning, around 10 a.m. The fire originated in one of the cooling towers and was quickly extinguished within the hour, with no injuries reported among the staff or contractors; the incident primarily affected the Central Utilities Building within the sprawling biotech complex, as reported byCBS 17.

Holly Springs Fire Chief LeRoy Smith explained toCBS 17that the facility’s design, featuring a membrane-type material on the roofs roughly the size of a small house, helped prevent the spread of the blaze, and the fire department’s prior training at the facility, partnered with efficient coordination with FUJIFILM staff, allowed the firefighters to control and put out the fire in under 30 minutes although the potential for a severe incident loomed with any industrial fire.

According toABC11, the fire was confined to the utility building and its rapid containment was attributed to the fire department’s familiarity with the complex’s layout and infrastructure, which was a direct result of progressive training exercises with the company’s staff, including preparations for scenarios in confined spaces and areas that are still under construction.

Chief Smith toldWRALthat “we train here with Fuji staff a lot,” citing this close partnership as a pivotal factor in the successful and timely response to the incident; the drills and established protocols underscore the importance of readiness and coordination between local emergency services and businesses within the community, especially when the potential for incidents such as fires can occur, when it’s crucial to mitigate risks and ensure safety.
