Quincy Man Arrested for Multiple Vehicle Break-Ins in East Boston, Faces Court on Charges

Joseph Woodside, 41, of Quincy, was arrested on many charges relating to vehicle break-ins in East Boston earlier yesterday after a flurry of broken glass and alarm reports drew police to the area. Woodside allegedly broke into and entered four cars at approximately 3:45 a.m., close to 345 Meridian Street and 5 Trenton Street, according to reports from the Boston Police Department.

Officers sent to Meridian Street discovered two cars with broken passenger-side windows. As they were investigating these cases, a caller informed them of the suspect’s entry into a parking garage. They located Woodside and ordered him to surrender as he leaned into another car; he did not run away but was immediately taken into custody. Another upset car owner claimed damage as police moved further, finally revealing that four vehicles had been smashed into.

Authorities found that Woodside had five outstanding warrants for a variety of charges, including assault, larceny, and drug possession. Woodside is currently facing four counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property. Following a series of unlawful actions that took place in the stillness of the morning, Woodside is scheduled to be arraigned in the East Boston District Court, where the repercussions of his alleged crime spree will be discussed.

Relevant to this series of events is the deeper, less frequently told story of a community that has been repeatedly shaken by the disruption of its tranquility and sense of security, and yet another chapter is about to begin, one in which people are awakened not by the warmth of morning light but by the acerbic declaration of property defiled, personal boundaries crossed, and the sound of sirens, which serve as a constant reminder that such violations are all too common in our everyday lives.
