Tomorrow is the 80th annual Christmas Parade in downtown Raleigh, a significant event that draws thousands of people. The News & Observer reports that the procession, which is billed as the biggest between Atlanta and Washington, D.C., will also result in road closures in the city center.
To safeguard the safety of artists and spectators, city officials have implemented additional safety regulations for the parade, requiring all vehicles and floats to pass a safety assessment within 30 days before the event. According to a report by MSN, attendees will also have to find parking and endure traffic closures.
The 2024 parade has holiday-themed cars and floats that haven’t been seen since 2022. Raleigh Mayor Pro Tempore Jonathan Lambert-Melton stated, “I think it’ll be a return to what folks are accustomed to, but obviously with some new and enhanced safety measures,” according to a CBS 17 story.
As part of the city’s attempt to strike a balance between celebration and safety, participants are required to sign a newly adopted waiver this year. The waiver highlights responsibility and reaffirms the dedication to making sure that everyone participating in the march is safe.
