Rocket Mortgage sponsors MAC championship game to help keep it in Detroit
The Mid-American Conference football championship game, due to be played next week at Detroit’s Ford Field, has a new title sponsor for the first time in nearly two decades.
The MAC and Rocket Mortgage announced a multi-year deal on Wednesday, an agreement that both parties say has helped keep the game going in Detroit.
Marathon Petroleum has been a sponsor since 2003.
“At Rocket Mortgage we have a legacy of playing a role in hosting some of the biggest sporting events,” Rocket Mortgage chief marketing officer Casey Hurbis said in a statement Wednesday. “When we heard about the opportunity to be a part of the MAC championship game while helping to keep the game going here in Detroit, we knew we had to be a huge part of this event.”
Rocket Mortgage also sponsors Detroit’s PGA Tour tournament.
Rocket Mortgage also announced a game-related promotion when it announced the partnership. If either team returns for the opener or the opener in the second half, Rocket Mortgage will donate $ 1 million to their efforts to end homelessness among veterans. Rocket Mortgage donated $ 1,000 for every NFL touchdown scored in November.

This year’s MAC Championship takes place on Friday, December 18th and will feature the MAC East Division Champion Buffalo (4-0) against Western Michigan or Ball State from the west. Western Michigan (4-1) and Ball State (4-1) play in Muncie, Indiana on Saturday.
“It is a privilege to work with Rocket Mortgage,” said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. “This partnership will help the conference continue the longest running college event in the city of Detroit, the heart of our conference.”
The MAC Championship began in 1997 and has been played at Ford Field since 2004. This year’s game will be played without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
