Round Rock Voters Approve $932.1M in School Bonds, Reject Athletics Facilities Upgrades

In a decisive local mandate, Round Rock voters have authorized a substantial investment in their schools, casting their ballots in favor of a $932.1 million school bond package, while simultaneously rejecting upgrades to athletics facilities, as detailed by

. The approved funds are set to bolster various aspects of the educational infrastructure, ranging from the replacement and enhancement of outdated technology, to critically needed improvements on the physical conditions of multiple campuses.

Amber Landrum, the President of Round Rock ISD’s Board, upon conveying her observations, said, “It’s a pretty clear message that they sent us about Prop D, and so we’re going to need to do a lot of communication with our community to see what they can and will support moving forward,” as reported by

. Prop A, encompassing the lion’s share of the bond with $798.3 million, secured its passage with the promise of revitalized HVAC systems, roofing, safety features, and the elimination of portable classrooms. Prop B, assigned $125.3 million for a tech upgrade, and Prop C with $8.6 million allocated for fine arts enhancements, were also embraced by the electorate, garnering majorities in their respective categories.

The rejected Proposition D would have diverted $65.9 million toward the construction of a new multipurpose athletic facility and the refurbishment of existing sports spaces. Round Rock ISD Superintendent Dr. Hafedh Azaiez, puzzled by the voters’ refusal, expressed in an interview with

, “I’m not sure why, but, obviously, that’s something we have to assess and evaluate.” Despite the setback with Prop D, Azaiez remains firm that addressing the athletic facilities is still very much a priority for the district, which will now need to contemplate alternative avenues of funding.
