Two Georgia election workers’ lawyers are attempting to hold Rudy Giuliani in civil contempt, alleging that he is still making the same untrue claims about the two of them tampering with the 2020 election, which led to a defamation judgment against the former mayor of New York City of $148 million.
The request was submitted Wednesday morning to the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., following Giuliani’s repeated appeals for public donations last week, claiming that his obligation to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea ArShaye Shaye Moss prevented him from being able to support himself.
The petition claims that even after Freeman and Moss received the enormous judgment and Giuliani was compelled to file for bankruptcy, Giuliani’s slanderous campaign against them persisted. Giuliani ultimately agreed to a permanent injunction that forbade him from bringing any more allegations that Freeman or Moss had committed misconduct in relation to the 2020 presidential race in order to stop his actions and stop further legal proceedings.
However, the plaintiff’s attorney claims that the former US Attorney is now flagrantly breaking that consent injunction. The filing states (emphasis in original):
According to the motion, Giuliani’s most recent remarks regarding Moss and Freeman are nothing more than a reiteration of the same falsehoods that he has been spreading for years and that he has expressly promised not to repeat. The plaintiff’s lawyer wrote that the evidence that he broke the court’s order was not only obvious and compelling, but also overwhelming.
Moss and Freeman requested that Giuliani be subject to monetary fines and civil contempt penalties that are designed to force him to abide by the order. The two said they would be ready to provide information regarding Giuliani’s financial situation and evidence of judgment-proof assets that had surfaced since the Court last took up this case, and they asked that a hearing be convened to decide on the proper contempt punishment.
Giuliani’s extensive legal issues have only become worse recently. Giuliani’s lawyers left without alerting Donald Trump after a federal judge in New York earlier this month dismissed his former personal lawyer for his absurd attempts to hold onto significant personal property that was owed to Freeman and Moss. In the bankruptcy enforcement case, he has since engaged a new lawyer.
