Sacramento Invites Community to Discuss Truxel Road Bridge Project Bridging Natomas and Downtown

The City of Sacramento is inviting locals to a community open house on Wednesday to discuss the Truxel Road Bridge Project, a plan to enhance connectivity between Natomas and downtown Sacramento. Interested parties can drop in at the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity, located at 400 Jibboom St., between 5:30 PM to 7 PM to learn more about the initiative. As reported by the

Sacramento City Express,

the study underway is examining the feasibility of the bridge, including aspects of preliminary engineering, environmental analysis, and community engagement.

The Truxel Bridge is envisioned as a multi-modal crossing over the lower American River, which aims to provide a more efficient route for individuals whether they are walking, cycling, using public transit, or driving. “We’ve received significant community input over the last year to better understand the community’s travel patterns, needs, and concerns to improve traveler experience on the planned bridge,” Fedolia “Sparky” Harris, principal planner with the Department of Public Works, detailed in a statement made by the

. The attendees of the open house are encouraged to RSVP online ahead of the event.

Funding for this first phase of the Truxel Bridge Project, which examines its potential development, comes from a Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning grant. This grant was obtained in conjunction with the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and is complemented by additional local funds courtesy of the Sacramento Regional Transit District.

Selected to bridge a divide that hinders economic movement and job access on a broader scale, the Truxel Bridge alignment has been in the city’s sights since the City Council adopted the American River Crossings Alternatives Study in 2013. The alignment was rated as a preferred option for a new bridge designed to improve limited connectivity across the lower American River. Parking will be free for all open house attendees, a nod to the city’s investment in making this event accessible as it hones in on a future shaped by increased cross-river interaction.
