Sacramento Seeks Community Ambassadors to Strengthen Connection with Diverse Neighborhoods

The City of Sacramento is on the hunt for “community ambassadors” to connect the municipality to its array of neighborhoods, each with its own cultural and linguistic makeup. As reported by the Sacramento City Express, these ambassadors are tasked with promoting city services and relaying information within their circles and broader communities.

Under the guidance of the City’s Neighborhood Development Action Team (NDAT), these individuals will receive a yearly $6,000 stipend. “The Community Ambassador Program is dedicated to bridging gaps and breaking down barriers, making sure that every Sacramento resident—regardless of culture or language—can access the vital information, opportunities and resources they need,” Lynette Hall, the City’s Community Engagement Manager, said in a statement made by the Sacramento City Express. Ambassadors are not just conduits but also active participants, who must attend monthly meetings to exchange information about community activities and necessities.

In addition to the stipend, the program compensates ambassadors for translation and interpretation aid, and it provides funds for special projects aimed at community improvement. Such initiatives have included diverse engagements like an acting contest, poetry events, instructional workshops, and community dinners designed to distribute various resources and knowledge about city services.

Applications are invited for a total of 18 ambassador roles, each serving a year-long term starting February 2025, but the deadline to apply is by December 20, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the city’s website for more details and to submit their applications online.

To learn more about the NDAT, which leads this initiative, one can look into their collaborative efforts amongst city departments. They focus on rejuvenating commercial corridors and transit zones in concert with community input in areas traditionally overlooked for investment. More can be found about NDAT’s mission and impact on the city’s official website as well.
