SACRAMENTO, Calif.(DDN) – A youngster was seriously injured in a solo motorcycle wreck in Sacramento on Sunday afternoon, only 24 hours after two other motorcycle accidents in the vicinity killed two men. The 18-year-old was ejected from the motorcycle shortly after 4:30 p.m. on the Q Street off-ramp from northbound Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
He was seriously injured in the Downtown Sacramento crash but is still alive, according to the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office.
A man was killed and four others were seriously injured when a vehicle collided with a group of 13 motorcyclists on westbound Highway 50 in Sacramento on Sunday morning, causing the road to be closed.
Brian Kipton Shaw, 42, of Paradise, died in a crash that occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Highway 50 east of Highway 99, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office ruled Shaw’s death an accident (MVA-Criminal), but a CHP spokeswoman claimed there are no charges or arrests in the case.
“At this point, we do not believe it was intentional,” stated Officer Mark Leavitt. “No DUI involved either.”
According to preliminary reports, a vehicle collided with 13 motorcyclists. Five persons were brought to the hospital, including Shaw and four others who sustained serious injuries.
The westbound lanes were stopped for more than three hours following the collision.
The CHP announced Monday that it is looking for anyone with information or who has video or dash camera evidence of the event; they may phone 916-897-5600.
On Saturday evening, a man perished in a single motorcycle accident on the western side of Sacramento County.
According to the coroner’s office, Thomas Jule Flores, 56, of Fairfield, died in the crash at River Road and the Sutter Slough Bridge.
No other vehicles were involved, and the cause was still under investigation as of Saturday night, according to the CHP.
