Sacramento Traffic Stop Leads to Major Meth Bust as El Monte Man Is Charged with Trafficking

Over the weekend, a major narcotics bust occurred in Sacramento County during a routine traffic stop. After noticing a Toyota Camry being driven with many moving offenses, detectives from the District Attorney’s High Enforcement Action Team (REACT) pulled the car stopped. On social media, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office provided a full account of the incident, stating that Toby, a K9 officer who is a member of the REACT squad and has received specialized training in narcotics detection, indicated the existence of drugs. As a result, detectives discovered secret compartments in the vehicle that held 121 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

After the discovery, 34-year-old Fernando Garcia of El Monte, California, was placed under arrest. Garcia is now charged with narcotics trafficking after the illegal chemicals were found on the floor of his car.El Dorado County Sheriff’s narcotics-trained K9 Toby (also assigned to REACT) alerted investigators to the smell of drugs, detectives performed a traffic stop, and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office shared.

Since then, the case has been turned over to the California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (Cal-MMET) and the Sacramento Area Intelligence Narcotics Team (SAINT) for additional investigation. Garcia is now being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail pending his court appearance. The Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office are among the offices whose efforts have been combined in the REACT initiative, and this arrest highlights their continued cooperation.
