Sacramento’s Week in Homelessness as IMT Addresses Hundreds of Calls and Seeks Shelter Solutions Amid Resource Scarcity

The most recent figures from the City of Sacramento’s Incident Management Team (IMT), which is tasked with tackling the region’s homelessness problems, have been made public. The Sacramento City Express reported that 771 calls involving the unsheltered population were placed to the city’s 311 customer service line between November 11 and 17. When city workers arrived, the IMT had successfully closed 740 of these calls, either fixing each issue or determining that the alleged issue was no longer relevant.

Throughout that time, the city’s Department of Community Response has been working hard to link homeless persons to resources, enrolling 74 individuals in databases that link them to shelters and other support. The gap between the need and the supply of services is glaring, though, as just 14 people were able to get a spot at the Outreach and Engagement Center at the City’s Roseville Road site. According to the Sacramento City Express, by November 19, there were just two Pallet houses and trailers at the Outreach and Engagement Center on the Roseville Road property.

Over 144,420 pounds of waste have been removed by the City of Sacramento’s cleanup efforts in spite of these obstacles.
