The police quickly seized the car after discovering a concealed firearm inside.
The adult suspects, identified by the City of Salemas as 20-year-old Horacio Chavez Soto and 19-year-old Manuel Contreras Rivera, both from Salem, were arrested on riot-related charges but were later released. The City of Salem also reports that three minors—two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old—participated in this violent early-morning incident. One of the younger suspects was charged with riot and unauthorized possession of a weapon, which are equally serious offenses regardless of the age of the bearer, for the gun that was discovered in their car when they were taken to the Marion County Juvenile Department. The two other teenagers are accused of rioting as well.
The inquiry into this occurrence is still under progress. Please contact the Marion County District Attorney’s Office for more information and questions.
