A 47-year-old man, Carl Henry, faced arrest by the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Central Patrol Division on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated cruelty to animals. According to the

, the incident initiated from a confrontation at a local motel where Henry allegedly stabbed another man and two dogs.

The altercation unfolded at approximately 5:47 p.m. last Monday, upon receiving a distress call about a man stabbed in a motel situated at 176 West 600 South. Responding officers immediately initiated, life-saving measures while awaiting paramedics from the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance to transport the victim, later identified as a motel employee, to the hospital where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Investigations by the SLCPD revealed that an argument escalated after the dogs belonging to Henry and the victim became embroiled in a fight. According to

, the victim attempted to intervene and separate the animals while Henry allegedly refrained. It is during this melee that Henry is accused of stabbing the victim’s dog, his dog, and then subsequently turning the knife on the victim multiple times.

Post the stabbing, Henry purportedly fled the scene leading to an extended search that initially proved fruitless. However, information provided to SLC911 on the following day indicated Henry had returned to the motel. Officers, with a safety plan in place, arrested him indoors without further incident. SLCPD has yet to provide updates on the condition of the injured dogs, their names, breed, or ages.
