29-year-old Seth Allen Hall was given a 15-year jail sentence for his involvement in a drug trafficking ring that dispersed large amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine around Sampson County. Hall previously entered a guilty plea to charges that included conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Hall led law enforcement on four different high-speed automobile pursuits, putting officers and innocent bystanders at danger in a turn of events that brought attention to the perils of drug trafficking. The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that Hall once escaped from law enforcement, reaching speeds of over 130 mph before his car crashed. “This defendant led three different Sheriff’s Offices on reckless chases that put innocent drivers at risk,” according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley, Jr., highlighting the law enforcement agency’s zero tolerance for such dangerous conduct.
Homeland Security Investigations Charlotte Special Agent in Charge Cardell T. Morant emphasized the negative impacts that people like Hall have on communities, saying, “This sentence reflects the destructive impact on the community caused by this defendant.” Morant reiterated HSI’s resolve to bring drug-spreading offenders to justice in local communities. Jimmy Thornton, the sheriff of Sampson County, also commended the cooperation with federal authorities that helped with the case’s investigation and resolution.
According to court documents, Hall has a lengthy criminal background that includes widespread narcotics dealing. He escaped from the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office on several occasions, including one time when he took over a car during an attempt to apprehend him. In a separate incident, Hall jackknifed his car and trailer on the interstate and fled from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office. He was later discovered with cocaine and a firearm close to the scene of the collision.
The U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle sentenced Hall, who had a number of felony offenses, including possession of heroin and attempted narcotics trafficking. The Eastern District of North Carolina’s U.S. Attorney, Michael F. Easley, Jr., made the announcement. ATF, the Sampson, Harnett, and Onslow County Sheriff’s Offices, and HSI were all involved in the investigation, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey Peaden. Details of the case are available through PACER or the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Case No. 5:23-CR-0041.
