San Antonio Man Arrested for Alleged Theft of Grupo Siggno’s $200K Equipment After Failed Facebook Sale Attempt

San Antonio police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of valuable musical equipment from the Tejano band Grupo Siggno. According to an affidavit obtained by

KSAT,

the equipment worth an estimated $200,000, was reported stolen on September 23 after it vanished from a rented U-Haul on the city’s Southeast Side. Bexar County Sheriff’s Office officials quickly found the abandoned vehicle, but the contents were gone.

After six days, 37-year-old Paul Joseph Ortiz, unsure how to get rid of stolen equipment, tried to sell it on Facebook. He contacted a promoter who, recognizing the recent theft, asked for photos. The promoter then verified with the band Grupo Siggno, who confirmed the equipment was theirs based on unique markings. Jesse Turner, the band’s lead singer, later confirmed the items were theirs in a statement to

KENS 5.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) moved in fast, with their Property Crimes Task Force using the provided social media profiles to identify Ortiz. Delving into Ortiz’s pawn history and reviewing surveillance videos from the site of the U-Haul theft, they pieced together the evidence. The videos showed the suspect vehicle and a man believed to be Ortiz engaging in suspicious activities consistent with the theft.”

The combination of online investigation and video evidence led to the arrest of Paul Ortiz, who now faces felony theft charges. His social media profile, which included personal details and photos matching his mugshots, helped identify him. At the time of reporting, his bond had not been set.
