San Francisco Braces for Showers With a Chance of Thanksgiving Sunshine

Residents of San Francisco are watching the skies this week due to the city’s unpredictable weather, as a series of storms and even severe rainfall are expected to arrive. With a weak trough going through today and a low-pressure system closely behind on Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service San Francisco says we’re in for “wet weather” through the early workweek. However, as is customary in the Bay Area, “drier weather” is predicted toward the end of the month, and the sky may clear up in time for Thanksgiving.

According to a comprehensive forecast on 7-Day Forecast San Francisco, there is a “40 percent chance of showers after 10am,” with the day leaning more towards partly sunny weather and a mild high of about 61 degrees. Rain is more likely to fall this evening, especially “mainly after 1am,” so prepare your rain boots and umbrellas as the probability of precipitation rises to 60%. Our worries about the drought are not yet resolved, though, since less than a tenth of an inch of rain is predicted.

Prepare for a windy commute as Monday is expected to bring more significant precipitation as the week progresses. There is a 90% chance of rain and the potential for breezy weather, with winds gusting from the southeast at 13 to 23 mph. With a dreary low of 52 degrees and “new precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible,” according to the NWS, the “rain likely” theme carries over into Monday night.

With a 50% chance of showers, there is still a chance of rain until Tuesday. By midweek, though, the weather is expected to improve, with a sunny Wednesday predicted. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco, “dry weather looks favorable for Thursday,” raising the prospect of a holiday free of rain. This reprieve, however, might not last long because there is “a renewed chance for pop up showers on Friday.”
