In a case that rocked the San Francisco community, justice has finally been served after over ten years. A 36-year-old San Francisco man named Lee Farley was found guilty of killing four individuals in the Hayes Valley in 2015. Four counts of first-degree murder and related weapons charges were found guilty at the end of the trial. According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Farley’s list of convictions also includes extraordinary circumstances because of the attack’s drive-by shooting aspect and gang involvement.
Four young men—Yalani Chinyamurindi, Harith Atchan, David Saucier, and Manuel O’Neal—were killed in the drive-by shooting event after being ambushed in their vehicle with more than fifteen rounds of gunshots. Even though the police arrived in two minutes, their attempts to provide first assistance failed to preserve the lives of the victims. According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins thanked the jury for the trial and said he hoped the decision would bring comfort to the families who had waited for justice for their departed loved ones.
The SFPD’s Homicide Unit and Community Violence Reduction Team put in a substantial two-year effort as part of the investigators’ intensive investigation on the case. This thorough investigation, together with the dedicated legal team and victim advocates who helped the bereaved families over the years, served as a major basis for the conviction. In his reflection on the case’s wider ramifications, Assistant District Attorney Nathan Quigley said, “This trial was a stark reminder of how gun violence harms whole communities and those scars last forever,” recognizing the prosecutors’ and law enforcement’s unwavering dedication to justice as stated in the press release from the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
Following the incident, according to Hoodline, the San Francisco Police Department offered a $250,000 reward for information that might help solve the crime. While Farley was already doing time in federal prison for another crime, the large prize revealed crucial information that led to his charges. Farley is currently awaiting sentencing; on December 16, a bench trial on priors is planned.
