San Jose Battling Invasive Mosquito Spread as Santa Clara County Ramps up Containment Efforts

An invasive mosquito species, Aedes aegypti, known for its ability to transmit serious diseases like Zika and yellow fever, has made its unwelcome presence felt in a fourth San Jose location, confirmed the County of Santa Clara Vector Control District. This mosquito, unlike its dusk and dawn-loving cousins, bites during the day and has been found in six places within Santa Clara County, including South San José, Santa Clara, Gilroy, East San Jose, near Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, and most recently near Cortez Avenue and Orlando Drive, exhibiting an unsettling adaptability and raising concerns over potential health risks.
