San Jose Boxing Instructor Charged With Multiple Sex Crimes, Santa Clara DA Seeks Additional Information

Charges have been brought against a boxing teacher in San Jose for suspected sexual assault. Tristan Arfi, a 42-year-old instructor at YBX Fitness, has been charged by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office with several charges of sex offenses against two clients and one staff member.

A 2019 conviction for lewd actions against a juvenile is part of Arfi’s past, which lends historical support to the current accusations. Fearing that there may be more victims, the district attorney’s office is now asking anyone with information about Arfi to come forward. Arfi was taken into custody yesterday morning and is scheduled to be arraigned on December 23, according to a statement from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

Reports of sexual assaults allegedly committed by Arfi during purportedly complimentary private massages provided at the gym were discovered by the San Jose Police Department and the DA’s Bureau of Investigation. The victims separately stated that after being unsuitably isolated, Arfi started to touch and caress them.

In addition to the claims of sexual assault, Arfi is also charged with trying to extort a female employee’s nude photos in exchange for her salary. Employees and witnesses have described a hostile atmosphere at the gym, where Arfi allegedly utilized non-disclosure agreements to stifle any talk of wrongdoing. This strategy has increased Arfi’s scrutiny because such agreements are not legally binding in cases of illegal activity in California workplaces.

Arfi is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation. Investigator Christina Hanks can be reached at [email protected] or (408) 792-2851 if you have any information.
