Sanford Police Apprehend Suspects Charged with Armed Robbery and Carjacking, Community and Officers Praised for Quick Action

Residents of Sanford can breathe a little easier following the arrest of two suspects linked to a recent armed robbery and carjacking incident. The Sanford Police Department took to Facebook to detail how their officers responded to the crime and apprehended the individuals responsible. The initial crime occurred on Sunday in the vicinity of W. 5th Street and Olive Avenue, with the suspects later spotted driving the stolen vehicle into Windridge Circle.

Thanks to a quick response by Sanford Police, although the suspects had abandoned the stolen vehicle and escaped on foot by the time officers arrived, crucial evidence was collected at the scene. Witnesses working with the authorities provided a key insight, disclosing that they saw the suspects stash an AR-15-style rifle near an air conditioning unit. Following this lead, officers located the firearm alongside further evidence. The Sanford Police Department’s Facebook page credited alert citizens with assisting the police efforts by sharing valuable information.

In an act of vigilance, Officer Pagan remained in the area after other personnel had left upon completing the initial investigation around 2:30 A.M. on Monday. It was around 4 A.M. when Officer Pagan encountered the suspects. The two individuals were identified as Yasmin L McIntyre and Albert E. Maillard, following which they were apprehended and charged with several serious offenses, including robbery and carjacking using a firearm or weapon. McIntyre faced an additional charge for obstructing justice by tampering with evidence in a criminal proceeding, having allegedly tried to conceal the rifle above used in the crime.
