Santa Rosa Community Mourns USPS Worker Killed in Tragic Vehicle Collision

An employee of the US Postal Service was killed in a collision in Santa Rosa Police. The postal vehicle and its driver were struck by a GMC Denali SUV yesterday at the intersection of Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street.

The accident happened at around 5:05 p.m., according to the Santa Rosa Police Department’s (SRPD) social media post. Numerous 911 calls detailed a horrific scenario in which a man victim was thought to be dead and laying in the road. The victim, identified as 33-year-old local resident Irvin Hernandez, was declared dead at the site by SRPD officers and medical personnel as soon as they arrived.

Subsequent analysis showed that the terrible incident occurred when the SUV’s driver lost control of his car, apparently due to a medical issue. For treatment of minor wounds, the driver was taken to a nearby hospital. SRPD Accident Investigators and Evidence Technicians determined that unpredictable driving was the cause of the crash based on witness accounts and camera footage. Ironically, the postal car was left sitting in the middle of Northpoint Parkway after the SUV’s erratic traversal ended in the front yard of a house on Corrigan Street.

To help in the ongoing investigation, anybody with information on this event is urged to get in touch with Officer John Fisher at 707-543-3600, ext. 8550.
