Yesterday morning, a local resident walking along Santa Rosa’s Piner Creek Trail came upon a somber discovery. Officials from the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) and Santa Rosa Fire Department (SRFD) responded quickly to a report of a potentially dead person and started searching the area. According to a social media post by the Santa Rosa Police, the corpse of a deceased male was discovered in Piner Creek, just south of Guerneville Road, at approximately 8:59 am, shortly after they arrived.
When detectives from the SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team swiftly arrived on the scene to take charge of the investigation, the situation became more complicated and brought to light the possible seriousness of the man’s death in the stream. The deceased is only identified as a Caucasian man in his mid-60s, and there are currently few facts available. Before making his name public, efforts are being made to safely verify his identification and alert his next of kin.
The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office is working to ascertain the precise cause and time of death, even though the man’s identity is still unknown. The Santa Rosa Police Department has promised to make more information public as soon as it becomes available and approved. Until the conclusion of the coroner’s probe, updates will be limited.
