The City of Boulder has recently announced the appointment of Sarah Wood as the new leader of the Boulder Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Wood is tasked with guiding the SBDC’s efforts to bolster local entrepreneurs and small businesses by providing strategic business advising, affordable workshops, and other essential resources. According to the

, city manager Nuria Rivera-Vandermyde expressed considerable enthusiasm regarding Wood’s hiring, saying, “For more than two decades, the Boulder SBDC has played an essential role in our community by helping thousands of small businesses start, grow and succeed. We are delighted to welcome Sarah to the city and look forward to working together to continue the center’s important work while enhancing our support for small businesses.”
The SBDC operates through a partnership involving the United States Small Business Administration, the State of Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and the City of Boulder. In recent efforts, the city has broadened its partnership with the SBDC, thus providing additional operational backing, this allows the SBDC to allocate more resources towards consulting, workshops, and collaborative small business initiatives.

, Wood’s extensive background features over a dozen years in various fields such as operations management, strategic planning, marketing, and business development. Wood’s career spans several industries, from music to outdoor brands and community spaces to nonprofits. Her expertise as an entrepreneur and a creative leader is expected to be instrumental in extending the Boulder SBDC’s track record of nurturing business growth and innovation.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Wood, a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, TN, enjoys outdoor adventures, traversing the backcountry by bike, skis, and raft alongside her partner Rob, and their dog named Beans. Her personal passions and professional expertise are poised to merge as she leads the Boulder SBDC into its next phase of development and support for the small business community in Boulder.
