Scituate Co-Working Space Shaken as Dump Truck Crashes into Building, No Injuries Reported

A Scituate business is piecing itself back together after a dump truck lost control, crashing through its front entrance last Wednesday. The Collective Co., a local co-working space, faced a terrifying scenario when the truck, with failed brakes, sped through an intersection and hurtled into the building. The incident reportedly occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Gannett Road and Country Way, as per

, she narrowly missed being in the path of the crash, as she was just arriving at the business. “I was emotional and I was trying to just process what had happened,” Meyers said. The driver, attempting to stop at a red light, navigated between two poles to unintentionally find its trajectory through the front door of her establishment, an event witnessed by onlookers including Meyers’ husband, Brian.

No injuries were sustained in either the initial collision with an SUV or the subsequent building crash, a stroke of luck considering the presence of people inside the space at the time. Scituate police informed that while there is no structural damage to the building, repairs will be needed for the glass and doorframe. Authorities have suggested that charges are likely to be filed against the truck driver, with the investigation still ongoing.

The impact of the event did more than to metaphorically shake the community; it physically disrupted the installation of new retail experience Meyers was adding to the coworking space. “The dump truck went all the way back to the back wall… bounced off the back wall… and came to rest right here,” Brian Meyers reflected back on the chaos in a statement obtained by

She even reported receiving over a hundred messages of support within hours of the incident, highlighting the community’s resilience and capacity to rally in tough times.

In the interim before reopening, The Collective Co. is offering gift cards and gift certificates for purchase online as a means for patrons to show support.
