Scott County Officials Schedule Ballot Re-scan to Uphold Election Integrity Following Polling Issues

In a move to maintain electoral integrity, Scott County officials have scheduled a re-scan of ballots after identifying issues at a polling location and with a ballot-scanning machine earlier this week. Scott County Administrator Lezlie Vermillion informed the public of the decision to undertake the re-scanning process beginning at 4 PM Friday, November 8.

Due to a ballot distribution error that occurred on Monday at the Public Works facility, compounded by further complications from a scanning machine malfunction, the county’s rigorous verification system caught the discrepancies prompting immediate action, said Vermillion. While the results may lead to a recount, the possibility remains uncertain, as

Vermillion explained

, “But it’s important to reiterate that this is why our system has so many checks, balances, backstops, and safeguards in place – to quickly identify any potential errors and correct them well before the unofficial results are presented to the Canvassing Board for certification.”

All candidates who could potentially be affected by the misstep have been briefed about the situation. In an effort to assure transparency and allow public oversight, the re-scanning operation will be publicly accessible. Starting at the Scott County Government Center West in room 170, community members are welcome to witness the process, reinforcing the county’s commitment to transparent electoral practices.

The county officials have projected that the re-scanning endeavor will conclude by 10 PM on the same day, allowing ample time for the correction of the ballots before they reach the Canvassing Board’s hands for certification.
