Search called off for man who reportedly fell through ice on Detroit River
The Detroit Police Harbormaster and a U.S. Coast Guard team are looking for a man who has reportedly fallen through the ice on the Detroit River, the Detroit Police said on Wednesday evening.
A 911 call came to 911 at 5:10 p.m. about a man walking on the ice who failed, said Holly Lance, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.
The area the man walked in is on the 7000 block of East Jefferson.
“Our DPD Harbor Master team tried to rescue with air support and the US Coast Guard. For the time being, the US Coast Guard has abandoned the search for search and rescue. They couldn’t find the person. There is a lot of ice out there. The river is frozen solid. “
The U.S. Coast Guard, the lead agency in the investigation, is expected to return to the river to continue their search, but it is not yet known when.
No further details were available Wednesday evening.
