Seattle’s culinary scene broadened its palate on November 6th as community providers gathered at City Hall for a hands-on immersion into the world of Korean Medi-Food. Expert chefs from South Korea led an interactive cooking demonstration, sharing recipes and tips on how to blend health and flavor in line with the specific nutritional needs of patients – all in the company of community meal partners and eager HSD personnel.

fostered this cultural cum gastronomic exchange fostering the relationship between food’s healing potential and dietary tradition.
In collaboration with officials from South Korea’s Janheung County and GoodCall Inc., the event wasn’t just about expanding taste buds but also about knitting stronger cultural ties through the universal language of food. Consul General Seo Eun-ji and HSD Director Tanya Kim graced Seattle with their presence, underscoring the significance of these connections. “It was an honor to welcome the delegation from the Republic of Korea, as well as the esteemed Consul General Seo Eun-ji. Their visit helped us to bridge cultures and enhance local practices with their expert cooking skills and rich traditions,” director Kim

Participants like those from the Filipino Community of Seattle and Lifelong, who serve medically tailored meals to various community members, found the event particularly valuable.
According to Mary Mitchell, Director of Aging and Disability Services Division
, “Learning about Korean Medi-Food is directly connected to the essential services we provide.” She noted the participation reflected their dedication. The demonstration, tasting, and imparted knowledge served as an immediate resource for their efforts.
Art and performance bridged the cultural experience beyond the palate with an art display by the world-renowned Kim Bong Jun and a traditional Taepyeongmu dance – their synergy with the Medi-Food event enhancing the day’s themes. Among other notable figures in attendance were Washington State Rep. Cindy Ryu and Good Call, Inc.’s Chairman/CEO Lee Won Jung, who, along with everyone, enjoyed the multi-sensory feast. Director Kim captured the spirit of the day, stating, “As we enjoy today’s performances and cooking demonstration, let’s be inspired by the power of cultural exchange and food’s role in uniting our communities,”
