The Seattle Fire Department will conduct live-fire training exercises on November 12 and 13, aimed at enhancing the readiness of both new and veteran firefighters. These exercises will take place at a vacant home located at 12544 2nd Ave NW, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to a recent announcement from the department.

The training is designed to give firefighters hands-on experience with managing high-intensity fires under controlled conditions and close supervision. In preparation, the department has been notifying nearby residents personally about the exercise and potential temporary disruptions, including possible road closures in the vicinity. Residents are advised that temporary inconveniences, such as brown water due to sediment stirred up by the exercises, may occur but are expected to resolve within a few hours.

During the exercises, the department plans to carry out four to six training sessions throughout the day, each lasting up to 20 minutes. Safety officers will be on site to supervise, ensuring that the fires remain controlled and contained. Additionally, the home has been cleared of all hazardous materials, such as asbestos and toxic substances, to further mitigate any risks. Residents are advised not to be alarmed by visible smoke or steam, which is the result of carefully managed training, conducted in full compliance with guidelines set forth by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
