SEATTLE, Wash. (DDN) – Seattle police conducted a huge drug sweep over the weekend after apprehending a drugs dealer in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, according to court filings.
The suspect has yet to be named by KOMO News because he has not been charged as of Tuesday. He is in the King County Jail on a $15,000 bond. According to internet records, police believe he poses a threat to the public because of his history of violence, mental illness, and drug use. Mayor Bruce Harrell discussed how his administration intends to step up its efforts to combat the fentanyl issue during his State of the City address on Tuesday.
Cal Anderson Park is well-known as a welcome gathering place, but according to SPD, a portion of the busy green space is also a high-use drug area. On February 15, officers reportedly observed open-air drug use near East Denny Way and Nagel Place and approached a group.
SPD stated the agency apprehended the alleged dealer and seized more than 100 grams of fentanyl, meth, 100 plastic baggies, an electronic scale, and $655 in cash.

Mayor Harrell acknowledged the destruction caused by fentanyl on Tuesday, announcing that the city will triple its investment to confront the epidemic this year.
“[We are] funding treatment beds, new methods of services and medication, an overdose recovery center and an expanded post-overdose response team, while arresting traffickers and those causing the most harm,” Harrell told the crowd.
“They’re making steps in the right direction. I don’t know if they’re making enough steps,” said Geoffrey Avila from Capitol Hill.
Mayor Harrell said that Seattle is the only city in the country where firefighters and EMTs can provide the life-saving medication buprenorphine. He stated that the campaign is successful, with a 25% decline in fatal overdoses in Seattle by 2024.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office states that if police send this latest case to them, the suspect could face charges later this week for the sale and delivery of synthetic narcotics.
