Seattle Teen Charged After High-Speed Chase and Shooting Incident, Police Continue Investigation

A youngster who was involved in a high-speed chase and shooting incident in North Seattle has been taken into custody by Seattle police. According to SPD Blotter, the altercation took place on Monday afternoon and resulted in accusations of assault and drive-by shooting.

A maroon Honda minivan reportedly targeted a white transport van during a drive-by shooting in the 900 block of Sandpoint Way Northeast, evaded the police, and darted into oncoming traffic, according to witnesses. The van disappeared with no injuries reported to have been sustained during the incident, and it was capable of reaching estimated speeds of 90 miles per hour.

At around 2:20 p.m., chase participants noticed gunfire coming from the van in the direction of the pursuing officers. Police confiscated the maroon minivan, which was later discovered to be vacant and had been reported stolen. The incident’s shell casings were found close to Northeast 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 137th Street. A suspect was apprehended when investigators found video footage during follow-up investigations and followed him to his residence. Statements retrieved by SPD Blotter indicate that this young person had previously been arrested for offenses involving vehicles. The 14-year-old suspect is currently facing several accusations and is awaiting his court appearance from juvenile prison, despite the fact that the gun used in the shooting has not been found.

After being temporarily detained on suspicion of complicity, another individual was released while more information was obtained. As detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit lead the ongoing investigation into this case, police efforts have stepped up.
