A Maineman will serve the remainder of his life in prison after being found guilty of shooting a man and a teenager, stealing their money, and posing for a picture.

On Friday, Aaron Aldrich, 47, was informed of his fate in the deaths of Mohamed Aden, 16, and Mohamed Adan, 21. In September, Aldrich was found guilty in the case.

Judge Jennifer Archer of the Maine Superior Court criticized the defendant, according to local ABC affiliate WMTW.

According to Archer, the self-centered deed of a man driven by greed ended the lives of these young victims, who were someone’s son, father, sibling, grandson, and friend.

According to The Lewiston Sun Journal, victim advocate Brian Hughes discussed the effects of the killings on the families, stating that Aden’s mother explained the custom of washing the body during the funeral in her culture.

Hughes remarked that it was difficult to be there for that, to see her son in the state he was left in due to his injuries, and to understand how difficult it has been to get over the sadness and depression.

By pointing out Aldrich’s drug addiction and regret, his lawyer, Thomas Carey, attempted to argue for a 60-year sentence.

Aldrich testified on his own behalf at the trial, stating that he was ambushed and that it was self-defense. He said, “There isn’t a day that passes that I don’t think about what happened.” I sincerely apologize. I am aware that it doesn’t make things right or bring them back.

On February 20, 2023, the victims were shot during a drug transaction at a residence on Tripp Lake Road in Poland. According to local NBC station WCSH, their bodies were discovered the next morning while conducting a welfare check.

According to WMTW, which cited court documents, a woman informed police that Aldrich had left her home the night of the murders and returned at around midnight while behaving suspicious and staring out windows. The witness reported to the police that she saw a cut on Aldrich’s wrist and what looked to be blood on his shoe. In the morning, the woman departed. Aldrich was gone when she returned, and he subsequently sent her a photo of himself along with the words, “I did something.”

Days later, he was taken into custody in New Hampshire on unrelated charges before being extradited to Maine to stand trial for the double murder.

At trial, prosecutors said he used a Hi-Point 995, 9 mm rifle in the killings and posed for photos holding cash and bloody evidence, TheSun Journal reported.

Those two were killed by me. I stood on either side of them. I flogged them, Assistant Attorney General Lisa Bogue told the jury quoting what Aldrich later told a witness. He has found weaker, smaller, younger boys that he can go and take from.
