Semi-truck Driver Uninjured After Fatal Crash in Mundelein, Woman Dies From Blunt Force Injuries

MUNDELEIN, Illinois (DDN) – A 24-year-old woman died early Tuesday after a head-on collision between her automobile and a semi-truck in Mundelein.

Officers arrived to reports of a crash on Route 45 south of University Drive around 1 a.m. and discovered the woman inside her extensively damaged Acura automobile with serious injuries. Emergency personnel extracted her from the truck and took her to Condell Medical Center, where she was declared dead.

The woman was identified by the Lake County coroner as Hannah Lebert of Lemont. An autopsy revealed that she died as a consequence of blunt force injuries sustained during the crash.

The semi-truck driver, a 44-year-old man, was also brought to Condell Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver stated that the Acura, which was heading southbound, lost control, crossed the median, and slammed head-on with his vehicle.

According to authorities, preliminary results suggest that speed may have contributed to the Acura’s loss of control. Authorities detected no signs of impairment by the truck driver, who is participating with the inquiry. The toxicology findings for both drivers are pending.

The northbound lanes of Route 45 remained closed for several hours as crews attempted to transfer the semi-truck’s contents and clear the wreckage. Both automobiles suffered substantial damage.

The Mundelein Police Department is investigating the incident with support from the Lake County Major Incident Assistance Team. The Lake County Coroner’s Office has yet to announce the victim’s name.
