Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) of Colorado Springs is calling all community members to attend the second work session on Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School. This meeting will dive into the results of the surveys and assessments carried out over the summer and will showcase various draft trail alternatives for the open space.
During this session, participants will get to engage in discussions post-presentation, asking questions and collaborating directly with the PRCS project managers and the planning team. According to theCity of Colorado Springs, David Deitemeyer, senior program administrator for Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS), noted, “The insights and perspectives shared by residents are invaluable as we work to create a space that reflects the community s vision.” They are keen on maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the community to balance recreational opportunities with preservation efforts.
The Fishers Canyon Open Space is situated in a prime location, flanked by the Cheyenne Mountain State Park to the south, the Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood to the east, and the Pike National Forest to the west. Despite its proximity to such natural beauties, the area remains without designated trails or official public access and will stay closed until a proper trail system and management plan are in place.
