BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (DDN) – According to officials, an Indiana lady is accused of putting her 2-year-old child in a bag before boarding a bus. Ashley Gibson, 29, was arrested for the incident on December 12, according to WXIN.
Officers examined camera footage obtained from inside the bus. The video showed Gibson getting on the bus with luggage.
Once the bus was rolling, Gibson allegedly stated that she had placed her 2-year-old in a bag, leading the driver to brake and alert law enforcement.
It wasn’t immediately apparent whether she made the alleged statement to the driver or he overheard her.
The footage shows Gibson opening the suitcase and collecting the child around 18 minutes after getting on the bus, according to Indiana Public Media.
According to court documents, she allegedly told police that she placed the boy in the bag “to keep him warm.”
Officers did, however, observe that the toddler was dressed appropriately for the conditions. Gibson allegedly stated that her caseworker agreed to her putting the infant in the luggage.
According to online court documents in Indiana, she has been charged with child negligence causing endangerment and criminal recklessness.
Gibson pled not guilty on January 15 and is slated to stand trial later this year.
